Hello.
I'm Elizabeth Wood, the face behind E J Wood Art. I’m based in Mount Maunganui, a beautiful beachside town in New Zealand. I work from a small, custom built studio next to my home. My time is split between painting, running my art website and being a mother.
I have been painting full-time for five years, during which I have explored a variety of subjects and mediums.
My most current work has been painted using oil paints, as their rich colour and texture enable me to communicate my own visual language and emerging style.
My work explores expressive brush strokes, and as these works are quite loose, the colour palette is fundamental in weaving it all together. I tend to use quite bold color to differentiate objects and space.
I have a strong connection to the New Zealand landscape, however I believe the themes in my artwork are universal. My work aims to capture the joy of being present in nature.
I take photos at varying times of the day to capture the changing light and atmosphere. I then use these photos to create my landscapes, infusing my artworks with playful movement and pops of colour.
It is my belief that art is a wonderful tool to learn more about ourselves and help with understanding our place in the world.
